SHSAT: Specialized High Schools Admissions Test

The Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) is a test offered to students studying in grade 8 or 9, for admission to the best high schools in New York city. Every year thousands of students take SHSAT for admission.

New York's specialized high schools' admission are based on performance in Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT). Those who receive offers have to decide by the end of February whether to start attending the school in the following September.

  • Bronx High School of Science
  • Brooklyn Latin School
  • Brooklyn Technical High School
  • High School of American Studies at Lehman College
  • High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College
  • Queens High School for the Sciences at York College
  • Staten Island Technical High School
  • Stuyvesant High School
Admission to the specialized high schools 'Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts' is determined by audition or portfolio rather than by exam:

Eligibility:

  • Eligibility: Eighth and ninth graders who live in New York city may take the test.
  • Students must be residents of New York city.

Frequency

October and November, results are declared by the following February.

International Students

Official records must indicate that you arrived in New York city after the last audition date.
