Advance Placement (AP) Program
The Advancement Placement (AP) program, sponsored by College Board offers a set of courses in the US and Canada. The courses offered by the Advance Placement(AP) are considered to be equivalent to that of the undergraduate courses in the colleges.
Benefits
Colleges participating under Advance Placement(AP) program grant credits to the students who obtained high scores in the exams.
Placement
Most of the four-year colleges in the United States and colleges in many countries give students credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of the scores in the AP Exam. By entering college with the credits earned during the AP, you'll be benefited in terms of being able to move into upper level courses, pursue a double-major or study abroad.
Eligibility
Students normally take AP courses in school by following a set curriculum in grades 10-12. Students then take AP tests near the end of the traditional school year, in May.

Now that you have decided to take the challenge, the next step is to register. Visit the co-coordinator at your school and talk to him in detail about the course, methods of preparation, registration.

very simple process with fixed timeline. The counselor in your school
can help you in the registration for AP.
AP Exams
If you are one of those lucky students who happen to study in a school
which offers advanced placement (AP) test, contact your school
coordinator to register for the exams.
Schooling from home
If you are a home schooled student or attended a school that doesn't
offer AP test, still you can take the test. Certain states even sponsor
online advanced placement course (AP) courses. Students in mainland China should contact international@collegeboard.org.
